Dear Friends-

Happy New Year! For many, especially those in Georgia, it was a hard working holiday as Democrats continued to work to flip the senate and win up and down the ballot in Georgia. Every bit of effort is making a serious difference, so please help us in these final two days to keep talking to voters via phone banks (see below). The numbers are incredible--which is why Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock are in competitive positions and locked in dead-heat races.

As of this morning, over three million Georgians have voted early. There have been historic levels of turnout and enthusiasm around the state, with over 117,000 voters casting a ballot in this election who did not vote in the November election. But we are still fighting for every single vote. There are key ways to take action

Winning both senate seats in Georgia could transform the way our country is governed. It would finally stop Mitch McConnell’s heartless obstructionism that’s prevented sensible, life saving legislation from being passed. Americans are in need of economic relief, funding for state and local governments to distribute a COVID vaccine and a clear path forward out of this pandemic. Georgia voters are keenly aware that everything they voted for in November – health care, jobs, the environment, education, racial justice – is still on the ballot January 5.

So many of our congressional colleagues have also remained busy at work and yesterday was the swearing in of the new 117th Congress. Congratulations to Speaker Nancy Pelosi who will continue to lead our party in the House of Representatives!  And a huge thank you to our Democratic Members and their staff who have kept up the fight for COVID relief. Trump’s stunts caused 14 million workers to lose unemployment benefits for a week. But House Democrats passed $2,000 relief checks and fought for more comprehensive relief for working families. They are also ensuring that the House will continue to serve as a check on the remaining 16 days of Trump’s presidency.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to threaten to try and overthrow the will of the people and the outcomes of this legitimate, certified election. And so far, a shameful 140 House Republicans and a dozen Republican senators have said they are preparing to challenge the Electoral College Votes despite there being no evidence of voter fraud.

I listened to the full recording of Trump’s desperate call to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to overturn the election and threaten our democracy. Bob Bauer, legal advisor for the Biden campaign said it best, the recording “captures the whole, disgraceful story about Donald Trump’s assault on American democracy.”

As we know, this is only the latest in a series of attempts to subvert the will of American voters and make baseless allegations about voter fraud. As the Washington Post recently reported, “With his baseless claims of widespread voter fraud rejected by dozens of judges and GOP leaders, President Trump has turned to a ragtag group of conspiracy theorists, media-hungry lawyers and other political misfits in a desperate attempt to hold on to power after his election loss.”

However, even Senate Republicans and Trump’s allies have continued to speak out against Trump’s destructive efforts and tell him it’s time to move on. Senate Majority Whip John Thune said, “I think the thing they got to remember is, it’s not going anywhere. I mean in the Senate, it would go down like a shot dog.”

Yours In the Fight,

Muthoni
