Hi John,
Happy new year!
2020 was fraught for many, but we have hope that 2021 will bring new opportunities to bring to light the vision DSA sees for the future. We hope that you’ll join us in the new year with renewed vigor and enthusiasm for our mission to support the working class.
Today we are proud to stand in solidarity with the Alphabet Workers Union, the new union of 225 Google engineers and other workers announced this morning. We encourage all workers to unite and wield power in numbers.
Additionally, there is currently a statewide discussion about forming a regional California DSA. Because the next meeting on this will be before our next regularly-scheduled chapter meeting, we are holding an emergency chapter meeting to:
- Discuss what a California DSA might mean for our chapter
- Vote on a resolution to participate in California DSA
- Elect a representative to the Exploratory Committee
Please attend this meeting on Sunday, January 10th at 2pm to take part in this decision.
A California DSA has the potential to impact our decision-making and resources greatly, and would like to hear from as many members as possible about the choice. We hope to see you there!
Following the successful passage of our Medicare for All chapter resolution, we invite members to join us, National Nurses United, and Santa Clara County Single Payer Healthcare Coalition in the statewide CalCare campaign kickoff on Feb 6. We will be planning for this event and our webinar at our next healthcare working group meeting this Friday, Jan 8th at 7pm.
In solidarity,
Your SV DSA Newsletter Team
PS — The Mutual Aid Fund is holding a pay-what-you-can speechwriting and public speaking class! Join us on Friday, January 8th at 5pm for Part 1 of a two-part course. Donations are not required, but anything you can spare will support volunteer-run community aid such as groceries for community members, and mask and hand sanitizer distribution.
