Hi friend,
“The most insidious thing that Chuck Schumer and Joe Biden are trying to perpetrate, and Bernie, and Elizabeth, and KAH-mah-la, or Kah-MAH-la, or KAH-mah-la or Kamala-mala-mala, I don’t know, whatever,” blathered Sen. David Perdue at a Trump rally in October.
Senator Perdue’s casual racism and consistent disrespect for people of color were crucial parts of his 2020 general election strategy -- and nothing is going to change before the January 5 runoff.
This shouldn’t be a surprise. Throughout Trump’s reign, the GOP’s racist dog whistles have only grown louder, whether that’s supporting the notion that there were “fine people” who marched in Charlottesville or routinely demonizing Asian Americans as being responsible for the “China virus.”
Thankfully, 80 million Americans voted against the GOP’s white supremacy, including millions of Georgians, who flipped their state blue for the first time since 1992 thanks to activists like Stacey Abrams. And as we head into tomorrow's runoffs and our last chance to flip the Senate, Democrats are certainly continuing the momentum: Jon Ossoff is less than a point ahead of David Perdue in the latest polls.
Republicans are scared -- which is why we’ll see David Perdue and the GOP stoking white supremacy to drive conservative turnout at the Georgia polls, especially among those who stayed on the sidelines during the presidential election. Republicans most certainly aren’t going to make the same mistake twice.
