Good Afternoon Comrade,
2020 is officially over. We witnessed one of the largest civil rights movements in U.S. history and organized local Black Lives Matter demonstrations focusing on defunding Akron Police Department’s whopping $56,000,000 budget. We hosted town halls with amazing guest speakers on Akron’s housing & eviction crisis as well as building labor power through unionizing. And on top of a global pandemic and meeting completely virtually, along with national’s DSA 100K drive, Akron DSA was in the top 25 for chapter membership growth out of all DSA chapters. And we’re looking forward to a year of even more grassroots growth, organizing, and changing the trajectory of politics in Akron.
We must organize and focus our energy on campaigns that build power for the working class and support our neighbors and community. Get involved with Akron DSA’s ongoing work and help us build a better Akron. We need to end evictions. We need to end Akron’s environmental racism. We need to defund the police. We need a broad working class coalition to make these and more things happen. Join DSA and get involved with us this year. As we continue to fight and take back power we need YOU to be involved. From voting to endorse candidates fighting for Medicare for All like Nina Turner, to building winning campaigns, Akron DSA needs you more than ever.
Here are a few of our upcoming events:
Heartless Housing - An Akron DSA Town Hall on Akron’s Eviction Crisis 1/16
Akron DSA January General Meeting (Steering Election Meeting) 1/21
2021 is full of opportunity, promise, and change. Akron DSA is playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of Akron and ensuring a more just and equitable future for working class Akronites. We look forward to seeing you soon, comrade.
In Solidarity,
Akron DSA
