John,
I'm excited to share that it's finally official: I am Congressman Jamaal Bowman, representing New York's 16th District of the Bronx and Westchester.
Half of Congress is made up of millionaires. I'm a Black man who was raised by a single mother in a housing project. That story doesn’t usually lead to Congress. But today, that 11-year old boy who was beaten by police just began his first term in the House of Representatives.
We're not wasting any time, John. We're ready to get to work to cause problems for the status quo and deliver for our families. People are hungry, people are homeless, people are jobless, and poverty rates are way too high. This past year, there have been two police-involved shootings in my district alone.
We're ready to reimagine public education, public safety, public health, and take a holistic approach to legislating that meets the bottom line of my constituents. The fight in Congress begins now, and it's going to be with the people of our district and working families everywhere.
So please: Hold me accountable. Push me and my colleagues — because I'll need you in Congress with me. This is only the beginning, and there's much work we need to do.
Peace and love, y'all. Let's go!
Jamaal Bowman
