I'm coming into 2021 with a heart filled with gratitude, and a spirit of determination. Let me start with gratitude, and say thank you. Because of the support of the Oxfam community, we raised $3,140,511 for families around the world living in poverty. That's an incredible way to start the new year, and we couldn't do it without this dedicated, generous community.

Now, the determination. I'm optimistic that we'll be able to make great strides in our efforts to fight poverty and hunger worldwide this year, but we know that the coming months will be extraordinarily difficult for so many people, so I wanted to let you know our priorities for this year. These are the crucial efforts that, thanks to you, we'll be able to focus on:

:: Saving lives and preventing people from being driven into long-term poverty by a growing hunger emergency. The economic impacts of COVID-19 have strained existing food systems, driving millions of people around the world into a hunger crisis that threatens to push them into long-term poverty. This year, we'll be focusing on programs to prevent the worst impacts of this crisis, with food aid and cash assistance.

:: Delivering more humanitarian aid and fighting for free and fair access to COVID-19 vaccines, treatments, and tests. Since the pandemic started, we've been responding to COVID-19 directly, reaching more than 11.3 million people in the US and around the world with projects like distributing water and soap. Now, we'll turn our focus to recovery - and advocating so that treatments, tests, and vaccines are available free of charge for all people.

:: Strengthening the role of women as local humanitarian leaders driving crisis response efforts and fighting for the health and safety of their communities. Over the past year, two of our highest priorities - advancing women's participation and leadership and reinforcing the role of local leaders - have come together like never before. We've seen local leaders can respond faster in emergencies like COVID-19 and are more informed of the best ways to help. We're going to keep supporting these groups this year, particularly in partnership with women's rights and feminist organizations - through COVID-19 and beyond.

I'm so grateful for your support in 2020. And I can't wait to see what we're able to accomplish together in 2021. Thank you for your continued partnership with Oxfam.

With gratitude and optimism,

Abby Maxman
