For the first time in our history, a governor from rural Utah will be sworn in at a ceremony likewise held in rural Utah. And I am proud that each one of the constitutional officers being sworn in today have one thing in common: each is a Republican. Spencer J. Cox, Deidre Henderson, Sean D. Reyes, David C. Damschen, and John Dougall will all take their respective Oaths of Office at the Tuacahn Amphitheatre in Southern Utah at 11:00 a.m. Their inauguration begins a new chapter in our great state. As the Chairman of the Utah Repulican Party, I am also grateful to Governor Gary Herbert for his lifetime of service to our great state. After serving 14 years as a Utah County Commissioner, he served four years as our Lt. Governor, and then over 11 years as our Governor. He is currently the longest serving governor in the United States. Recently, Senator Mike Lee stood on the floor of the United States Senate to pay tribute to Governor Herbert. His words were both personal and heartfelt, born of a close working relationship. He reminisced about advice that Lieutenant Governor Herbert once gave him many years ago: “long after our service has expired, we want to be able to look back and be pleased about the relationships we have formed...” Please take a moment to watch Senator Lee’s speech, as well as Governor Herbert’s farewell address. I look forward to the Governor’s next opportunity to serve Utahns and create impactful relationships, which will take place at Utah Valley University. Utah is in good hands with Governor Cox at the helm. Last year, while running Utah’s COVID-19 Task Force and successfully leading Utah through one of the most difficult problems it has ever faced, Cox also won the Utah Republican State Convention, the Republican Primary Election, and then the Utah general election. He has showcased an incredible ability to lead, inspire, and be decisive, and I look forward to his administration. Please join me in congratulating Governor Spencer Cox, Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson, Attorney General Sean Reyes, Treasurer David Damschen and State Auditor John Dougall. My friends, Utah is in good hands. Thank you, Derek E. Brown "But every difference of opinion is not a difference of principle. We have called by different names brethren of the same principle. We are all Republicans, we are all Federalists." -Thomas Jefferson's Inaugural Address, 1801 Governor Herbert bids farewell After 11.5 years as governor of Utah, Gary Herbert shared a final farewell address. We wish him well in his new endeavors and thank him for his tireless service to our state. Utah Republican Party 15 W.
