John--
Today, the New Jersey Globe reported [[link removed]] that Assemblyman Anthony M Bucco plans to accept an appointment to his late father’s State Senate seat, while continuing his reelection bid for the NJ State Assembly this November. In other words, Assm. Bucco plans to run for a seat in which he never plans to serve. This is Republican politics at its worst.
If Assm. Bucco is successful in doing this, the voters of the 25 th district will have no say in who represents them in the Assembly. The Republican County committee will have the power to choose one of their own to take the seat without any input from the voter.
“Republicans here in Morris County have spent decades working to bypass the voter to ensure that they can hold onto power,” stated Chairman Chip Robinson. “The voters of the 25 th district deserve better than voting for a question mark. They deserve to know exactly who they’ll be voting for in this year’s general election. “
We call on Assemblyman Bucco to be honest with his constituents and stay on this year’s ballot only if he plans to serve a full term in the General Assembly.
