Look, it doesn’t matter what you feel about Joe Biden — it is unacceptable
for the President of the United States to convince a foreign power to
interfere in our elections. And according to Trump himself, that’s exactly
what happened.

It gets worse. According to a new report, Trump himself ordered his acting
Chief of Staff to freeze nearly $400 million of aid ahead of the
controversial call with Ukraine. In that same call, Trump tried to
convince the Ukrainian President to work with his own personal lawyer to
investigate Joe Biden eight separate times.

At the beginning of our Republic, preventing foreign interference in our
democracy was a top priority of our founding fathers — that’s why the
grounds for impeachment focused so heavily on treason and bribery. Today,
we have inherited the responsibility to protect that Republic — and that’s
why I’m fighting to open an impeachment inquiry.

Congress is faced with a clear choice: do we set the precedent that this
type of behavior is acceptable in the White House? Or do we stand up for
our democracy, for our founding ideals, and for free and fair elections in
2020?

I choose to stand up. Congress’ job is to prevent executive overreach and
to protect the American people. And if we meet these challenges with
courage, not cowardice, we may yet be able to preserve the foundations of
what has made this nation great.

The time to act is now — let’s open an impeachment inquiry, and show
Donald Trump that there are consequences for his actions.
