It feels like only a short time ago when Brand New Congress representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib were taking their first oaths of office. Now, our coalition has doubled and we are building power in the progressive caucus!

Congresswoman-elect Cori Bush ended a 5-decade political dynasty when she defeated Lacy Clay in Missouri’s 1st District. She is now in D.C. raising the conversation to new levels on economic justice and COVID relief. Cori took us along on her thrift shopping errands to buy an adequate wardrobe to wear while serving her district. This is how regular-working people overcome the obstacles of preparing for the halls of Congress.

Congressman-elect Jamaal Bowman defeated one of the most powerful Democrats in Congress, Eliot Engel, in a successful challenge for New York’s 16th, dealing another blow to the status quo in Washington D.C. Without a moment to waste, Bowman joined other members of the BNC coalition in protest of the DNC, demanding swift action on the climate crisis through the passing of a Green New Deal.
