Fellow Conservative,
Happy New Year!
2021 is coming in fast with the Georgia Runoff election on Tuesday, January 5.
These are the most expensive Senate races ever with over $480 million <[link removed]> spent on ad placement since November 3. All eyes are on Georgia, and for good reason!
Ads are effective, but to cut through the noise it takes more. It takes:
- Boots on the ground knocking doors
- Volunteers making calls
- Citizens serving as poll watchers and poll workers
- Local grassroots leaders mobilizing their networks
Going into 2020, Heritage Action made a specific plan to focus on these grassroots activities. It was crucial in the lead-up to November 2020, and we were able to pivot quickly when Georgia became the central battleground.
I would like to share a special year-end investor report <[link removed]> with you, highlighting our shared impact in 2020 and in Georgia now. This work is because of YOU—your volunteer time, your energy and your enthusiasm to get out the vote and stop the “blue wave.”

So many of you have contributed time, talent, and treasure to help ensure victory—thank you! We will be joining you in eagerly watching the election results come in for Georgia on Tuesday night.
Happening on the Hill
NDAA & Section 230—On Dec. 23, President Trump vetoed <[link removed]> the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for 2021 because it did not reform Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which Big Tech has abused to act as content publishers (without assuming the legal responsibilities). The Heritage Foundation has written about the need to reform Section 230 <[link removed]> to return it to its original intent.
By a two-thirds vote in the House on Monday and in the Senate on Friday, Congress voted to override Trump’s veto and enact the NDAA for 2021 into law. This is the first veto override of Trump’s presidency.
$1.4 Trillion Omnibus & $900 Billion COVID package—On Sunday, Dec. 27, President Trump signed the long negotiated spending bill & COVID package into law. This was not a forgone conclusion after President Trump tweeted a video <[link removed]> on Dec. 22 denouncing the wasteful spending in the bill. Heritage Action had previously pointed out this wasteful spending in our legislative Key Vote <[link removed]> to the Hill.
When signing the bill, President Trump outlined his plan to still fight the wasteful spending. Trump stated, <[link removed]> "I will send back to Congress a redlined version, item by item, accompanied by the formal rescission request to Congress insisting that those funds be removed from the bill."
More “Free Money” for Everyone—The $900 billion COVID package contained $600 stimulus payments to all Americans. President Trump has asked that instead of sending money overseas, Congress should increase the payments from $600 to $2,000, with many members of both parties jumping on in support. And this week, the Democrat-led House passed the CASH Act <[link removed]> to increase the $600 payments to $2,000.
Of course, the problem is that this bill does nothing to reduce the wasteful spending of the $900 billion dollar package—it just adds MORE spending which means MORE debt. It’s not “free money” at all, because the American taxpayer still has to pay for it at a later date, with interest added.
>>> Remember this: Politicians who call for more government payments to citizens, but oppose tax cuts are misleading Americans.
The Swamp is at its worst when it takes taxpayers’ money and redistributes it how the Swamp sees fit. The correct way to put more money in citizen’s pockets is to never let the Swamp tax it in the first place. The money is ours to begin with!
Looking Forward
2020 was a trying year and it has set up 2021 to be a defining year for hope and recovery. We have great optimism for our country and our people. America is strong and good.
Despite trials and setbacks, there is always much to be grateful and hopeful for. This is a country worth fighting for, and that fight will never cease. Let’s resolve to face the obstacles ahead, together.
At Heritage Action, we are happy warriors; and we are happy to be fighting alongside you.
Have a blessed New Year,
