John, we all know how important it is to support the LGBTQ community in schools—and this is especially true during back to school time. That’s why student-led programs like Ally Week are so vital. This week, tens of thousands of students nationwide are starting conversations, signing petitions, and showing LGBTQ youth in their schools and community that they have allies.
Being an Ally means acting in solidarity with students who hold identities that are marginalized or maligned in our society. GLSEN stands with LGBTQ students across the country by developing programs for schools to begin the year with visibility and celebration of LGBTQ students, educators, and families through Ally Week.
John , will you stand up as an Ally for LGBTQ students with a donation today? [[link removed]]
The start of the school year is an exciting time—but it can also be scary for the LGBTQ students who face bias, bullying, harassment, and violence. According to GLSEN’s most recent National School Climate Survey, about 60% of LGBTQ students felt unsafe at school and nearly 90% experienced harassment or assault.
That’s why Ally Week is so important.
In 2005, GLSEN’s National Student Leadership team saw the importance of creating a unified opportunity for parents, teachers, and students across the country to start a conversation —and help to amplify voices of LGBTQ students.
That’s how Ally Week grew to be a national movement.
GLSEN has provided free resources and support for schools participating in Ally Week every year since. This year we hope to reach even more LGBTQ students.
That’s why your gift today will make a real difference. [[link removed]]
Thank you for helping to start the school year by standing with LGBTQ students, educators, and families.
