When Helen Gould inherited the Lyndhurst estate, she promptly went to work re-shaping the private home into a space for the community. One of the largest additions was a grand pool house that was open for use to local children. When Lyndhurst became a National Trust Historic Site in 1961, the Pool Building had not been used since Gould’s death in 1938. Explore historical photographs of how the pool looked in its heyday and learn how the Lyndhurst team plans to bring it back to the community.
Preserving & Adapting Their World:
The Women of Cliveden
The women who walked the halls of Philadelphia’s Cliveden House were enslaved and free, Black and white, upper class and working class, young and old. Their stories are as varied as their lives, and an exhibition at Cliveden is dedicated to sharing them—regardless of 2020’s obstacles. Meet the women of the house and get a sneak peek into their lives with a series of twelve videos produced by this National Trust Historic Site.

Preserving the Legacy of Black Baseball
in Detroit’s Hamtramck Stadium
Major League Baseball recently recognized the Negro Leagues of the early 20th century as a part of the Major League. In Michigan, Hamtramck Stadium—home to the Detroit Stars—is one of five remaining Negro League stadiums in the country. Once a jewel, it was partially demolished in 1970, then fenced in and closed in the early 1990s. Learn how the National Trust’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund is helping rehabilitation efforts at Hamtramck and other Negro League stadiums.
We never cease to be touched by the generous outpouring of support for the National Trust through our Year-End campaign. It’s a gift only we—the people who most appreciate the unique power of place and story—can give.
