We've seen it before: President Trump's temperament can drastically change from one day to the next. But no matter what headlines come out of the White House, I'm focused on our work -- including lowering the skyrocketing prices of prescription drugs.

The truth is, I do get seriously emotional when I talk about drug prices. It's a deeply personal issue -- for all Americans. It's quite literally a matter of life or death.

Take for instance a woman I met at Johns Hopkins Hospital: She had tears in her eyes when she told me that her doctors had saved her life, but she couldn't afford the cure.

There's no question in my mind that a health care system that identifies a cure that's just beyond a patient's reach is an inhumane system.

You have spoken up about this issue before, so I know it's personal to you, too. We cannot rest for even one moment. We have to keep speaking out. Join me in holding the pharmaceutical industry accountable for unethical drug pricing. Sign our petition today.

The woman I met at Johns Hopkins is hardly alone. Over the past decade, 90% of brand-name drugs have doubled in price. In just the first year of the Trump Administration, prices for 16 of the top 20 best-selling drugs in the U.S. increased, many by double digits.

And there are real-life consequences: Nearly 20% of Americans said they didn't fill their prescriptions because they couldn't afford them.

The astronomical cost of prescriptions is an epidemic.

That's why I launched an investigation into price gouging in the pharmaceutical industry and our first hearing was on drug prices. And it's why House Democrats came together to advance a measure that would lower the cost of life-saving medications.

But the fact of the matter is House Democrats' plan is now stuck in the Senate with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

We can't afford to delay any longer. We need to ensure Americans can access the prescription drugs they need. People's lives are at stake.

Add your name to mine and call on Trump, McConnell, and Republicans to take immediate action to hold Big Pharma accountable for the outrageous prices of prescription drugs.

Thank you,

Elijah
