2020 was a year for the books. Our Immigrant Justice, Justice Project, Opportunity to Learn, and Power and Democracy programs accomplished wins with grassroots partners across the country on behalf of Black and Brown people, and we’re using this momentum to set our New Year’s resolutions for 2021. These are some of our resolutions as we begin the new year.

Incarcerated people have been one of the most vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we enter 2021, we will continue our fight through advocacy and legal action to ensure that incarcerated people are released from jails, prisons, and detention centers. All people, including incarcerated people, deserve to be #FreeAndSafe.

With multiple victories in the #PoliceFreeSchools campaign in Denver, Wisconsin, Oakland, and Phoenix, we are committed to continuing to help grassroots partners remove police from schools because police in schools do not make Black and Brown students safer.

In 2021, we will continue to shed light on the dangerous effects that Title 42 has had on immigrants in Phoenix and hold sheriff offices accountable for their relationship with ICE to end the unnecessary criminalization of immigrants.

State criminal disenfranchisement laws deprive approximately 6.1 million people in the U.S. of their right to vote. One of our priorities this year is to work to restore voting rights for formally incarcerated people and those with convictions in different states across the country.

These are just a few of our New Year’s resolutions for 2021, and they are key in guiding us in fulfilling America’s promise of a caring, inclusive and just democracy. As you work on your own list of New Year’s resolutions, we encourage you to keep advocating for the freedom and safety of Black and Brown people at the forefront of your list through signing petitions on our website, attending our educational webinars, and participating in our days of action.

We can make a difference together.

Happy New Year from Advancement Project National Office!
