Dear John,
As we say goodbye and good riddance to 2020 and look with cautious optimism to 2021, we’re reflecting on all that has been achieved in a year nobody could have planned for.
2020 was set to be an important year ([link removed]) for women’s rights when we would mobilise to hold world leaders to account on promises made 25 years ago. But plans were soon scrapped when the world ground to a halt and women and girls began to bear the brunt ([link removed]) of the COVID-19 crisis - existing inequalities were deepened and women’s rights were threatened.
Yet through it all, women’s movements grew more determined, and through your support Womankind and our partners were able to continue our critical push for a world where the rights of all women are realised.
Here are just some of the highlights from a historic year:
We took to the streets to march for the rights of #AllNotSome women
You joined us on the streets of London on International Women’s Day as we connected with the global women’s movement and demanded that governments take action to ensure the rights of all women and girls.
We launched a fund to support partners through COVID-19
We started the Womankind COVID-19 Resilience Fund ([link removed]) in recognition of the hugely disproportionate impact the pandemic has had on women and girls and to strengthen and sustain partners who were on the frontlines supporting their communities.

We demanded an end to violence against women at work
Together with our partners we joined the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence campaign and demanded that governments did more to protect women at work, including those in the informal economy. Read how Womankind partner Zimbabwe Chamber of Informal Associations is demanding an end to state violence. ([link removed])
We supported women-led cooperatives in Ethiopia
Through your support in this year’s Big Give partner Siiqqee will be able to support women like Marta to become economically independent. “What is most encouraging is the belief we can grow together.”

The work doesn’t stop…
Although a vaccine is beginning to be rolled out in some countries, we know that the fallout of COVID-19 will be long lasting. We know that as times get tougher for women and girls around the world, we must get louder in our demand for full and equal rights.
Your support over the last year has allowed us to stand firmer with our partners and seek justice for women and girls. In 2021 we continue to speak truth to power and support women and girls to change the world.
With best wishes,
Hannah Little
