[[link removed]]Dear John,

If you’re struggling for resolutions, you can’t go wrong becoming a member of
Liberty.

JOIN LIBERTY TODAY →
[[link removed]]For almost a century, Liberty members have been making the UK a fairer, more
equal place for everyone.

In 2020, Liberty client Ed Bridges won the world’s first legal challenge to
police use of facial recognition technology.

Our client Sarah Ward forced her local council to scrap a Public Spaces
Protection Order that effectively made rough sleeping illegal in Poole. The case
sends a message to every council that homelessness is not a crime.

The inspectorate looking into the first-ever police super-complaint backed
Liberty’s and Southall Black Sisters’ calls for police to stop sharing the
details of migrant survivors of domestic abuse with the Home Office for
immigration enforcement.

And our legal advisors set up the online Coronavirus Advice and Information Hub
(which has so far been accessed more than 21,000 times), responded to thousands
of individual requests for assistance, and provided bespoke advice to protesters
and rough sleepers during lockdown.

But we need your help for the year ahead.

The Government is trying to weaken your ability to hold the powerful to account
and enforce your rights.

It’s looking at how to limit ‘judicial review’ legal cases that let ordinary
people challenge governments and other public bodies when they get it wrong.

It’s expected to introduce new laws that will weaken protest rights.

And it has recently announced a ‘review’ of the Human Rights Act, the law which
brings to life the values we all hold dear – equality, fairness, and dignity.

Right now we can stand up to power if necessary. Join Liberty, and together we
can make sure this isn’t taken from us.

With very best wishes for the new year,

Gracie Bradley
Interim Director
