And just like that, 2020 is over. A year of fear, sorrow, and uncertainty, but also a year of progress, hope, and determination. No one would say that 2020 went as planned, but overcoming adversity is how we adapt and grow.

Here at the Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT), we have worked hard to pivot in response to the global pandemic and other unexpected challenges of 2020.

We raced to create the Coronavirus: Data, Life, & Liberty Taskforce, a comprehensive response to the COVID-19 pandemic ensuring that personal privacy was balanced with public health.

We launched new work to close the homework gap, and ensure that students and their data are protected in a virtual world.

We expanded our work on algorithmic fairness and data ethics, and began new work on the digital divide and workers' privacy.

We created principles for managing health privacy outside the scope of HIPAA.

We worked hard to counter mis- and disinformation around public health and the elections.

We could not have done this without you. Thank you for investing in the work we do, partnering with us in its execution, and celebrating the wins and milestones we've reached this year. Together, we sought practical solutions in this unimaginable year, and now move forward even more committed to putting democracy and individual rights at the center of the digital revolution.

Thank you for all the ways you've supported CDT this year. I look forward to our partnership in the year to come.
