Hi John,

In a moment, we’re going to ask you for a special gift to support our 2021 plans
for justice and human rights. But first, I’d like to talk about your role in
this movement, the impact of your support, and our collective fight.

I want to start off by thanking you.

This was a challenging year for human rights, to say the least. From the spread
of COVID-19 in ICE detention facilities, to the rampant police violence against
Black and Brown communities throughout the United States, to the locking up of
asylum-seekers for the sole act of seeking protection from violence, your support has helped keep us on the front lines of protecting human rights.

Some others may have seen these injustices and turned a blind eye. Not everyone
is willing to make a sacrifice to ensure human rights violations are
investigated, denounced, and addressed. But you did not ignore your feelings. You knew, like Amnesty did, that action was necessary.

Today, I’m calling on that feeling again. As our team plans for 2021, we have
hope — there is incredible opportunity to free families from detention, to win
legal protections for protesters, to expand protections for asylum-seekers, and
so much more in the New Year. The only limit on how bold we can go in 2021: resources.

As a top supporter of Amnesty, you know that we’re a 10 million person global
movement that accepts zero dollars and zero cents from governments for our
research and campaigns. Each and every victory we achieve is a victory you share, too. And every additional dollar we can raise before 2021 is another chance to fight
even harder for our shared vision of the world. It’ll help us sustain and expand our team of human rights researchers, and
deploy them immediately around the world when crises arise.

I’ll say it plainly: Right now is the most impactful moment for you to make a
contribution to our efforts, so we can implement the most ambitious plan of
action to combat injustice in 2021.

If you're in a position to make a special gift right now, we're so grateful. Our
Development team has put together a special link just for you:

It is hard to overstate the impact of a generous gift to Amnesty’s efforts at
this critical moment. Our researchers and campaigners are working tirelessly to
identify opportunities to make a difference in the coming year, and I’ll be
honest with you — we do not have the resources to join every battle.

But if just a handful of the people reading this email are able to make a
special gift, it can radically change what we’re capable of achieving in 2021.
Amnesty works because we all pitch in what we can, whether that means making
calls to legislators, writing letters to free prisoners, or making a donation
large or small. Through working together, we can — and do — rise to these
challenges.

John, I know this year has been challenging for so many
people in our communities and beyond. My hope is that others can consider making
a special gift, with those at risk in mind. If you’re in a position to make such
a special gift, now’s the time.

I’ll close this out as it began with a thank you — for rising to this moment,
for refusing to give in to cynicism, for believing in our work, and for your
commitment to this movement.

Onward,

Marcy Bourne
