Friend,

Our plastics problem won't go away unless we solve it at its source -- and that means stopping the use of the single-use plastics we just don't need, and holding plastic producers responsible for the pollution they create.

U.S. PIRG and our network of state PIRGs around the country are campaigning for bans on the worst single-use plastics -- like the ban our partners in Maryland helped win on foam takeout containers. But we can't do it without the support of people like you.

There are only a few hours left to help us reach our goal -- and if you donate by midnight, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $50,000 nationwide.

Will you help us win bans on the worst single-use plastics in 2021, Friend? Donate today.

Subject: Giving deadline alert: Help us slash plastic waste in 2021
To: Friend <[email protected]>

Friend,

Today is the last day to make your end-of-year gift to help slash plastic waste.

U.S. PIRG and our national network are working to ban the worst single-use plastics in states around the country in 2021.

To make sure our campaigns have the resources they need to win, we've set a goal of raising $100,000 by midnight tonight. And, if you donate today, your contribution will be matched dollar for dollar by generous donors, up to $50,000 nationwide.

Let's move our country beyond plastic -- help us reach our goal of raising $100,000 by midnight tonight.

Nothing we use for five minutes should take up space in our landfills or pollute our environment for hundreds of years. But that's what's happening with plastic. And while we saw major progress in 2020 to reduce our plastic waste, the work is far from over.

For years, our network of state PIRGs across the United States has been building momentum for bans on the worst single-use plastics -- such as polystyrene foam takeout containers. And, in 2014, our partners in California won the first-ever ban on plastic shopping bags in their state.

Since then, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, New York, Oregon, Vermont and Washington have all adopted their own restrictions on plastic bags -- and Maine, Vermont and Maryland have become the first states to ban plastic foam food and beverage containers. And, this year, New Jersey adopted the strongest single-use plastics ban in the country, addressing plastic bags, foam containers and more.

All of this progress adds up in a big way -- but we have so much more work to do.

We can't afford to lose this momentum. That's why we've set a goal of raising $100,000 by midnight to give our campaigns the resources they need to win lasting change to reduce our plastic waste output. Will you help us add even more states to the list in 2021?

It's not too late: Make your end-of-year gift to U.S. PIRG by midnight to help us tackle plastic pollution in 2021.
