Friend,
The tragedies of 2020 have created a critical disruption – an unprecedented opportunity to dispense with norms and unleash new possibilities. The disruption manifested from a pile-on of crises and pandemics.
This year we watched loved ones and neighbors die as a result of COVID-19 as well as government sanctioned murders. And so many more who had been living on the verge of total insecurity have been plunged into its depths. We hailed some of the most vulnerable among us as “heroes,” even as we have failed to spare them from economic disaster.
But these tragedies have also made it possible for us to challenge the status quo in new and different ways. As we approach 2021, we can make a commitment to build a New York City that is the best of what’s possible. We can demonstrate uncompromising courage and conviction to confront and overcome the structural & systemic barriers of oppression and injustice that have been imposed on so many of our communities — keeping our families from thriving, our women from prospering, and our children from succeeding.
Other candidates will promise that they have the right plan to restore what our City has lost and can manage us back to stability. That's not enough. I’m not promising you that I will restore what the City has lost. I am promising you that we can build something we have never had. A new New York City that is born at the intersection of the current crises and the opportunity of the moment. It’s about a moral imperative and a relentless pursuit of true democracy.
In 2021, we can deliver on the promise of a City where what we want for our own families is what we want for every New Yorker. Because anything less, ever, is not good enough. Help fulfill this promise with a donation of $21. Join me in putting our communities first for a change. Join me in creating a new New York in 2021.
Best wishes for a Safe, Happy, Healthy New Year and a new NYC that we build, together.
In solidarity,
Dianne
