As I look back on this year, I am hopeful.
I'm hopeful because voters (81,283,485 of them!) chose a positive vision over a negative one. I'm hopeful because not even a pandemic could stop the American people from fighting for justice, accountability, and equality. And I'm hopeful because Americans from all walks of life continually did what they could to lend a helping hand to their neighbors as we faced this crisis together.
Now, with 2020 nearly behind us, the new year is our chance. Together, we can hit the ground running to bridge the partisan divide, fight for our values, and put working people over politics.
It's going to take time to rebuild our country. Whether it's securing additional COVID-19 relief, taking big money out of politics, expanding affordable health care, shoring up civil rights and liberties, or combating climate change – we need leaders to do their part.
I have no illusions about the challenges ahead, and that's why I won't waste a single moment when the soul of our nation is on the line.
