John: This quote from David's email below is so powerful...

"This past year will go down as one of the most turbulent years in history, but 2021 will be remembered for how we either helped each other or turned away from those suffering the most."

Today, to inspire you to make a donation before 2020 ends, a generous donor has stepped up to offer an exclusive New Year's Eve match that triples your gift. But this opportunity, for you to have 3X the impact, ends at midnight.

Please don't wait, John. Make 2021 a brighter year for refugee families »

President and CEO of the International Rescue Committee David Miliband visits IRC staff in Yemen, in September 2018.

Hi John,

This past year will go down as one of the most turbulent years in history, but 2021 will be remembered for how we either helped each other or turned away from those suffering the most.

That's why I'm writing to you today. On the last day of the year, I hope you will make an urgent gift to help us provide critical support to refugees and other families who have struggled to survive this year.

A generous donor has stepped up to offer an exclusive New Year's Eve match — tripling your gift before midnight tonight. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity so your gift can go three times as far in helping crisis-affected families around the world. When you donate, John, your gift will be put to immediate use where it is needed most.

As I've mentioned to you before, in many of the places where we work, refugees and displaced families are facing a triple threat — war, hunger and COVID-19.

In Yemen, people already suffering from the largest humanitarian disaster in the world are now forced to grapple with yet another devastating emergency.

In Syria, the virus is compounding what was already the worst economic crisis to hit the country since the conflict began.

It's our moral obligation to be there for these mothers and fathers and their children. I hope you will make a special New Year's Eve gift before midnight to have it tripled. Any amount will make a lasting impact.

Together we can help mitigate the spread of this virus, protect vulnerable communities and care for the people affected by COVID-19. We can expand our innovative work treating malnourished children and continue our critical response to illnesses that disproportionately affect children, like cholera and malaria.

And we can help more refugee families who've fled war and persecution to recover and rebuild their lives.

John, leading the team here at the IRC has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Every day, I am humbled by the resilience and courage of the people we serve and the dedication and expertise of our staff members around the world.

As we look ahead to 2021, we need more people willing to stand up for displaced people and refugees. Please make a gift before the year ends to triple your impact and help us reach more of the world's most vulnerable people.

Many thanks for your support during this unprecedented time. We can't do our work around the world without people like you, John.

Sincerely,

David Miliband
President and CEO
International Rescue Committee

We are so grateful for the generosity of our supporters today. If you have already made a donation, thank you very much. If you haven't yet, please consider making your gift right now and it will be tripled. Any amount will make a real impact.

All gifts, up to $2 million, will be tripled by a generous donor until December 31 at midnight. Your donation will be used where it is needed most.
