Friend,
I wanted to reach out to you one last time in 2020, share some reflections with the team that means so much to me, and ask that you make an important investment in our future with a donation of any amount to United We Dream Action today. I hope you’ll indulge me while I explain.
2020 was a challenge for us all. As immigrants, we had to stand together to proudly and loudly demand justice and equality and dignity while holding back wave after wave of attacks — ranging from the lower courts to the Supreme Court — that sought to undermine or end the DACA program that protects many of us from the threat of deportation. As organizers, we mourned the loss of building and fostering in-person communities and connections with the rise of COVID-19 early in the year. And as a community of Black and brown people, we shouldered the burden of this global pandemic as our loved ones disproportionally contracted and died from the coronavirus.
But when 2020 brought us into the darkness, time and again this team found ways to step up and create our own light. We won a major victory at the Supreme Court — one that was hard-fought and asked so much of us, not only as members of this movement but as people of this world. We found new and innovative ways to support candidates that would be champions for our communities in the halls of Congress and at local levels of government all across the country.
And we haven’t stopped. Right now, some of our team is putting our heads together to prepare for what comes after the clock strikes midnight tonight. That’s why, in light of the New Year, I’m writing today to ask:
Will you make a donation in the spirit of recommitting to the fights ahead of us as a team, as a family, and as a movement? Much of what we accomplished in 2020 was because of the fundraising we did in 2018 and 2019. We’ll need your help to kick off 2021 in the most impactful way possible. Can you chip in right now?

Becoming United We Dream Actions’s Executive Director this year has been the honor of my life. I went from organizing high school walkouts to negotiating with elected officials and leading national campaigns to protect DACA and now have the pleasure of serving our over 800,000 members. I am the embodiment of the UWDA’s leadership pipeline, and it’s an honor I take seriously because I am proof that the work we do together can, and does, change lives. Everything we do is because members like you choose to be part of this incredible team every day.
Thank you so much for being here and for fighting with us. I hope you have a restful and reflective New Year and will be ready to rejoin the fight for dignity and justice for immigrants in the light of a new day for our people.
The work begins now! Talk soon.
Greisa Martinez, Executive Director
