Support FAIR: Corporate Media Sidetracking Real Election Issues—Again – copy

view post on FAIR.org

Dear FAIR Friends,

While corporate media focus on who’s up/who’s down in the horserace for the Democratic nomination, more substantive concerns—What are the candidates’ policy proposals? Are they adequate to the scale of the problems we face? Will our votes be suppressed, or even miscounted?—go unaddressed. With so much at stake, we’ve got to push back on media pushing news that sidetracks real issues critical to an informed electorate.

FAIR will work tirelessly through to the November 2020 elections to hold big media accountable, spotlighting problems and demanding better journalism. On our website, we’ve introduced a special issue area, Election Focus 2020. We will keep working to set the story straight and to shine a light on what media don’t cover.

  • ‘Pragmatic’: How Corporate Media Praise Dems Who Abandon Progressive Values Corporate media hide their pro-business positions behind a veneer of pragmatism, presenting their ideas as common sense.
  • Corporate Media Are Here to Warn You: Medicare for All Is a Very Bad Idea The flow of doom-mongering stories is increasing to a roaring flood as the notion gains more traction among the public.
  • CNN Town Hall Went Deep on Climate Crisis—but Was Anyone Listening?
CNN’s climate crisis town hall showed that, when it’s not setting up mock combat among candidates, the network can actually provide thoughtful and substantive discussion about critical policy issues.

Summer was a lean time for donations. We’ve got lots of new readers, listeners and people discovering FAIR for the first time. That’s great—we need these new friends, along with our regular supporters. But we depend on the generosity of readers old and new to continue the work you see here.

To stay independent, we don’t take any advertising or corporate dollars. YOU are the financial backbone of this small nonprofit.

And we need your support. Each and every donation, any amount, is truly appreciated. Please give what you can.

And thank you—

from Deborah, Janine & Jim

P.S. By popular demand. For a donation of $35 or more, we’re keeping our fabulous thank-you gift: a T-shirt commemorating the 25th anniversary of Nirvana’s benefit concert for FAIR.  The reissued iconic T-shirt has the terrific “DISinformation” art by Robbie Conal on the front, and two classic concert rosters listed on the back.
