Hi John,
Amidst the seemingly constant ups and downs of this trying year, Emerge New Mexico has been able to celebrate some really incredible moments, thanks to the powerhouse Emergistas who inspire us everyday.
So before we close out 2020, we wanted to celebrate some of these pivotal moments with you - the network that makes our work possible. And we hope that can count on you to help us keep the momentum going into 2021 [[link removed]] .
Emerge New Mexico Moments Worth Celebrating
75 Emerge New Mexico trained women ran for office in the 2020 general election! 61 of these women won their races - giving our graduates an 81% win-rate in the 2020 general election.
Changing the face of politics in New Mexico - and throughout the nation
Representative Deb Haaland, Emerge New Mexico Class of 2007, was nominated to serve as the first Native American Secretary of the Department of the Interior . Representative Haaland is also the Emerge graduate in the country to be nominated as a U.S. Cabinet Secretary.
For the first time in our state's history, women will make up a majority of the New Mexico House of Representatives . Twenty-one of the 37 women who will serve in the House in 2021 were trained by Emerge New Mexico. In addition, 4 Emerge New Mexico graduates will serve in the New Mexico Senate.
Judge Julie Vargas, Class of 2014, was appointed to the New Mexico Supreme Court. Now, t hree of the five New Mexico Supreme Court Justices were trained by Emerge New Mexico.
Over 80 Emergistas serve in public office throughout the state
Emerge New Mexico graduates serve in nearly all levels of government throughout New Mexico - from Congress to the State Legislature, the New Mexico Supreme Court to district and municipal courts, city and county offices, school boards and conservation districts, the State Land Office, and more.
Nearly 400 women have been trained by Emerge New Mexico
In 2020, Emerge New Mexico trained our 15th class since our founding in 2006, and we can certainly say that this year's class was a first. Like everyone, we quickly adjusted to the reality of a global pandemic and trained Emerge New Meixco's first all-virtual class. Thank you to the Class of 2020 for all of your hard work and dedication throughout the year .
Emerge New Mexico graduates broke down barriers, stood up for their communities, and created meaningful and lasting change throughout the state and the country - all in an unbelievibly difficult year.
We need your help to keep the momentum going. We cannot continue our mission of recruiting and training Democratic women to run for public office and win without the full support of our network .
