EPI's economic research and policy analyses challenge assumptions of the political establishment and redefine the limits of the possible.

Friend,

In 2007, an EPI researcher had an idea for how to put America on the path to universal health care while building on existing systems like Medicare.

Jacob Hacker’s Health Care for America plan introduced the idea that became the public option in the health care policy debates of 2009 leading up to the passage of the Affordable Care Act.

The public option did not make it into the ACA. Some at the time viewed it as too bold and radical a change. Today, the public option is embraced by President-elect Biden and others as the quickest path to universal health care, while many progressives believe it does not go far enough, fast enough.

EPI helped change the public narrative around what is possible and practical in health care reform. In so doing, we empowered progressives to embrace more ambitious proposals to overhaul health care like Medicare for All.

EPI has confronted the conventional wisdom in Washington time and again since our founding 34 years ago. Make a tax-deductible donation to EPI before midnight to help us push for the bold policies that put working people first, and change the narrative around what is possible. ([link removed])

EPI uses rigorous economic empirical research and policy analysis to challenge some of the core assumptions of the political establishment. We bring the voices and concerns of working people into the national, state, and local economic policy debate with a sharp focus on worker justice and racial and gender equality.

Our research has led on the importance of addressing income inequality. Our reports explain how inequality is linked to a decline in worker power, including the concerted assault on labor unions. We have also shown how past investments and times of economic prosperity have left some communities behind, reinforcing the importance of leaving no one behind.

Will you donate today to support the research behind our movement for transformative economic change? ([link removed])

EPI economists and alumni will hold many positions of influence to advocate for working people in the new administration. EPI alumni will occupy 2 seats on the Council of Economic Advisers, while economists Elise Gould and Valerie Wilson will serve on the Economics Task Force of the Coalition for Women’s Appointments to help recruit, guide, evaluate, and recommend qualified women for senior-level, policy-making, and multi-tier positions in the incoming Biden-Harris administration.

Wilson was also appointed as an adviser to the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, where she can help elevate the concerns of working people and people of color in Fed decisions.

We will use all these platforms and others to hold our leaders accountable for delivering the policy solutions U.S. families need now. And we will continue to enlist your support in public comment drives to federal agencies and letters to elected leaders to ensure that future legislation and regulatory actions put working people first.

Friend, together we must fight for universal health care, paid family leave, the right for any worker to join a union, and real relief for the millions who are still suffering from the economic fallout of this year’s pandemic.

We need smart investments in infrastructure to grow the new economy with good-paying jobs, support for our schools and teachers so they can help students struggling through a year of unprecedented learning challenges, and a bold commitment to ending systemic racism and the disparities of resources available to our communities.

Your donation before midnight will help us hold the new administration accountable for building an economy that works for everyone in America, elevates the contributions of working people, and is committed to addressing and reversing systemic racism. ([link removed])

Thank you for everything you did this year. We are in this fight together.
