We Must Fight!

A New Year's Message from Annie Holmquist

It’s the last day of 2020—Hallelujah!

Some of us wondered if we’d ever make it to this point. Indeed, many of us probably feel like we’ve just barely made it to the finish line, and would be content to lie there, in exhaustion, letting the dominant culture of political correctness overrun us, not caring anymore what happens to ourselves or this country.

If that’s your situation today, then I wish to breathe some words of encouragement into your heart.

Despite the hard year—or perhaps because of the tough year—we’ve been able to see the battle lines drawn all the more clearly.

It is now clear that elected leaders want to constrain our freedom.

It is now clear that our safe and fair elections have been swept away.

It is now clear that the culture war threatens virtually everything we hold dear—God, family, and country.

But now it’s also clear that we are not alone.

As the recent elections show, tens of millions of Americans seek to preserve the rights and values that made this country great. We at Charlemagne Institute are among those millions of Americans, and we believe that you are as well.

So what must we do?

I turn to the words of a man far wiser than me for the answer: Patrick Henry. In 1775, Henry rose to make his famous “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death” speech. We know that phrase well, but we’ve likely overlooked the following admonition:

“If we wish to be free—if we mean to preserve inviolate those inestimable privileges for which we have been so long contending—if we mean not basely to abandon the noble struggle in which we have been so long engaged, and which we have pledged ourselves never to abandon until the glorious object of our contest shall be obtained—we must fight! I repeat it, sir, we must fight!”

That is the answer: “We must fight.” We at Charlemagne Institute are committed to fighting for the long march. But we can’t do it alone.

Will you join us in this fight for our nation and our families by becoming a member for only $5 a month, or by sending a one-time gift of $25, $50, $100, or more?

I am getting ready to charge into 2021 with joyful, hopeful enthusiasm! I hope you will come along as part of our merry, joyful band, fighting for truth and righteousness!

Gratefully,
Annie
