John, Climate change is real, and it is happening now. My friend Harvey is a pecan farmer who lost his farm and his livelihood—and nearly lost his life—when a coal plant opened next door. The fight against climate change begins with stories like Harvey’s. This video follows the story of Harvey Hayek, a former pecan farmer in Fayette County, Texas. Harvey’s trees started to die after the Fayette Coal Plant was opened in 1977. Years later, Harvey began to experience headaches and partially lost his sight. It was discovered that he had developed a brain tumor the size of a grapefruit. The death of Harvey’s pecan orchard, and the monstrous tumor he survived, were both caused by emissions from the coal plant. We are in a fight for the future. We need your help to share this video with as many people as you can. |
