My name is Morton Blackwell, President of the Leadership Institute. I’ve committed my life to building the conservative movement by increasing the number and effectiveness of conservative activists and leaders in the public policy process.

In 1980, I organized and oversaw the national youth movement for Ronald Reagan, then proudly served in his White House Staff as a Special Assistant to the President for four years.

During that time, I realized that there were many liberal organizations to mobilize liberal agitators, and far too few conservative organizations existed to mobilize conservatives.

Many conservatives focus on the power of ideas. Most conservative educational organizations focus on policy or legislation. In contrast, the radical left focuses fiercely to organize and mobilize large numbers of young people to influence public policy.

During my career, I’ve long advised my fellow conservatives that it’s not enough to be right. It’s not enough for conservatives to have the best ideas, grounded in the timeless principles of the American founding.

Even when you and I have the right ideas, the lack of widespread, active conservative participation hinders the success of our shared conservative principles.

Time and again, you and I have seen principled conservative candidates and policies go down to defeat. The radical left can be terrifyingly effective when they so often out-organize and out-work conservatives.

Just because conservatives are correct does not mean that we will win.

In 1979 I founded the Leadership Institute to increase the number and effectiveness of conservative activists and leaders in the public policy process, particularly on college campuses.

Since our founding, the Leadership Institute has trained more than 230,000 conservatives. Now, our organization maintains a unique national network of 2,001 active, conservative student groups on local college campuses in every state.

The truth is that America’s future leaders are on college campuses right now. Conservatives must reach young people at this most pivotal time in their lives.

Today’s college campuses are cesspools controlled by progressives intolerant of conservative ideas. Many young people spend four years at college without once hearing a conservative idea presented.

Liberal professors use their positions of power to indoctrinate and transform young people into America-hating, socialist pawns.

I firmly believe that leftist domination of America’s colleges and universities poses the single greatest threat to our future freedom.

Conservative students find themselves ostracized, bullied, and sometimes even physically attacked because of their conservative principles.
