Winnie never weighed more than one pound. Southern California puppy traffickers, the Kenneys, sold the pup to a newlywed couple who responded to an ad on Craigslist for a mini labradoodle. The Kenneys advertised that Winnie was 8-weeks-old and fully vaccinated. But the couple soon learned how far puppy traffickers will go to turn a profit.
Winnie was only 4-weeks-old, had been dyed reddish-brown with hair dye, and had not been properly vaccinated. Winnie died just weeks after the couple brought her home — from a disease she contracted because she never got the vaccines the Kenneys said they gave her. This was not the first time a puppy suffered and died because of the greed of unscrupulous people like the Kenneys taking advantage of Craigslist’s policy loopholes.
Unscrupulous breeders, puppy- and kitten-mill operators, and animal brokers are exploiting the platform to sell critically ill animals as well as to dupe families into paying for animals they never receive.
