Dear Friend,
This holiday season, I want to take a moment to thank you, and celebrate the progress we have made this year toward a cure for cystic fibrosis.
In 2020, the Foundation has 43 funded industry agreements and approved more than 600 awards for research and care, including multiple programs designed to advance genetic therapies and combat infection.
Last week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration expanded its approval of three CFTR modulators to include people with cystic fibrosis who have certain rare mutations. This approval enables more than 600 individuals access to drugs that treat the underlying cause of their disease for the first time, and provides some people with CF additional therapeutic options.
In addition, we remain committed to ensuring people with CF have access to high-quality, multi-disciplinary care. Since March, we have helped support a nearly five-fold increase in telehealth visits and provided more than 15,000 home spirometers to care centers so people with CF can monitor their lung function from home. We also united virtually, despite being physically apart, to connect, share stories, and lift each other up during this new normal.
Friend, despite the challenges we have faced this year, our mission and unwavering commitment to find a cure for all people living with cystic fibrosis remains the same. It is because of you that we were able to celebrate 65 years of progress this year, and together, we will make CF stand for Cure Found.
Thank you for all that you do for the cystic fibrosis community, and for your steadfast support. On behalf of everyone at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, we wish you a happy and healthy New Year.
With gratitude,
Patrick J. Feeley
