Hey John,
This year has been hectic. From the pandemic to the presidential election, it seems like moments for collective rest have been rare.
That's why we'll make this message quick. As we reach the end of 2020, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for everything you've done to show your support. Thank you for every call you've made, every petition you've signed, and every virtual event you've attended. We couldn't have gotten this far without you, John.
But we do have one quick request: We're asking you to take a moment to imagine a world in which every Black person is free — free from the threat of mass incarceration, violent policing, and racial profiling. Free of the fear of being separated from loved ones and support systems.
That’s the world we’ve been fighting for in 2020, and we’ll continue to push for meaningful solutions that benefit our communities in 2021. But we need your help to make our shared vision real. Can we count on you to join us, John?
Yes, I want to HELP build a better world for black folks in 2021
Here's the thing, John: Even in an unpredictable year like 2020, one constant remains. The criminal justice system continues to target Black people at every turn.
From high-profile cases of police brutality to the cases that never make it to the national news, we know that policing does not keep Black people safe. We also know that — as a result of anti-Black racism, criminalization, and over-policing — one-third of Black men will face a felony conviction in their lifetime, and Black people are almost 6 times more likely to be incarcerated than white or Latinx people.1
Black people are still more likely to be arrested and face higher charges, and be sentenced for longer periods of time, for the same offense.2
But at Color Of Change, we can envision the world we're fighting for — one that defends Black lives and invests in Black futures. And we're building a community that creates REAL wins for Black folks.
We know our people deserve to go to school, support their families, and live peacefully in their homes without police intervention. We know we deserve to be freed from cages and not face disproportionate exposure to COVID-19. The list goes on. Join us as we strive to head into 2021 with much-needed resources to KEEP winning.
We know that times are tough and not everyone has it in their budget to give. But if you can, John, please help us make justice real by becoming a sustaining member before the end of the year:
