Dear John,
It seems like most of us will be cheering more than usual when the clock strikes midnight tomorrow, on the last night of this challenging year.
But it’s not just about 2020 ending (though it surely is about that). It's about 2021 beginning. In my decades of fighting for justice in New York City, the need for transformative change has never been greater. And the potential has never been higher.
Next year, we will elect a new mayor, a new comptroller, and new city councilmembers for most of the city. Amidst the overlapping crises of the pandemic, economic and racial inequality, and the coming climate catastrophe, our movements for change have more urgency and more opportunity than ever before.
So we want to hear from you, John: What do YOU hope for in 2021? (And, what are you most looking forward to leaving behind in 2020?) Let us know before tomorrow at midnight →

A few things I am hoping for in this next year:
• Delivering COVID relief to the families that need it most and getting all of us vaccinated quickly and fairly, so we can turn the corner on this deadly pandemic.
• Our legislators in Albany finally acting to raise revenue from the ultra-wealthy to support better schools, fix our transit system, and provide housing to more New Yorkers.
• Building on the momentum of 2020 to hold the NYPD accountable, putting nurses instead of police officers in our schools, and ensuring that every New Yorker can walk our streets safely without fear.
• Expanding NYC’s paid sick leave policy and other worker protections to include gig workers, like the Uber drivers, DoorDashers, Instacart shoppers, and others who have put their health on the line this past year to keep our city stocked and fed.
• Electing a new slate of city leaders who will lead with bold and creative ideas to improve the lives of New Yorkers and the follow-through to make them happen.
What would you add to the list for 2021 -- and what do you want to leave behind in 2020? Let us know in this quick survey → [[link removed]]

The pandemic has exposed so many of our differences -- but most New Yorkers agree that we need a safer, fairer, healthier, and more just city.
I’m looking forward to doing everything we can to make that city a reality, together, next year. Hearing your hopes will be a great place to start.
Thank you so much, and at long last: Happy New Year!
-- Brad
