John --
Trying to get a job is stressful.
And for the millions of Americans looking for work right now, the last thing they need to be worried about is whether or not the color of their skin, who they love, or how they worship will prevent them from earning an income.
54 years ago today, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed an executive order preventing federal employment discrimination on the basis of "race, color, religion, sex, or national origin." Countless leaders built on this important legacy of equality for American workers -- including President Obama who made sure sexual orientation and gender identity were included as well.
But this legacy of fairness is under attack, John. And Dwight needs your help to fight back.
In a few months, the Supreme Court will decide whether or not employers can discriminate against LGBTQ employees. And the Trump administration has essentially told the court: "Yeah, go for it." Now more than ever, we cannot afford to take any more steps back in the fight to ensure that everyone is treated equally in this country.
We need an effective civil rights advocate like Dwight in Congress to continue fighting back against these attacks on our country's vital non-discrimination protections. Can you chip in just $3 today to help us meet our end-of-quarter goal to ensure he can do just that?
From passing the LGBTQ Equality Act to pushing for the formation of a commission to consider reparations for the descendants of slaves, Dwight is fighting each and every day in Congress to give voice to the historically silenced, advocate for those who need someone in the halls of power to look out for them, and ensure everyone is given a fair shot at the American dream.
So no matter what you can afford today, we need your help to meet our critical end-of-quarter fundraising goal and keep Dwight fighting in Congress. Because when we work together, we build a stronger tomorrow for each and every person in our community.
Thanks for your support,
Michael
