Hey there –

With 2020 nearly behind us – and truly, the end can’t come soon enough year – I know that we’re all eager to head into brighter times.

My heart goes out to everyone impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to everyone who has lost loved ones. While I know the next few months won’t be easy and that there may be a long road to recovery – I also feel a resolved sense of hopefulness for what’s possible. And with your help and support, we can move forward, together.

At the Campaign for Southern Equality, our 2021 docket is already quite full, and I wanted to give you a preview of the work ahead:

  • This month North Carolina took a step forward with the sunset of a key provision of HB142, restoring power to cities and towns to protect LGBTQ residents from discrimination, and we’re proud to collaborate with Equality NC in supporting local leaders to take action all across our state. Check out www.NCisReady.org for how you can get involved.
  • Our team is preparing to release a new digital update to our popular Trans in the South guide, which helps connect trans Southerners with quality, affirming health and legal services.
  • In the next few months, legislative sessions will start up across the South, and we’re already seeing revivals of ugly legislation that targets transgender youth’s access to the most basic areas of life.
  • Tragically, the pandemic is continuing to surge, impacting so many. We’re working on continued fundraising and distribution efforts for future rounds of our COVID-19 Rapid Response Grant Program, which directly supports LGBTQ Southerners impacted by the pandemic.

There is much work to be done. And we’re ready. We need your support again in 2021. If you can, please pitch in with your year-end donation of $100, $50, or whatever you can at www.southernequality.org/donate

Thank you for everything,
Allison Scott
