Dear reader,

For the last few years, we’ve tried to bring you the inside story of life in New York City’s enormous and highly segregated public high school system, in the best way we know how: through the students who attend these schools. Our final Miseducation podcast with The Bell ([link removed]) looks at the many ways the lives of these students have been upended in the pandemic.

“I thought it was going to be closed for like a week and we were going to get back to normal,” one of the student journalists recalled. Spend a little time with this season’s “Students in a Pandemic” podcast ([link removed]) to hear more about the difficult time these students faced – and still face – as they await an elusive return to in-person learning.

As always, we love to hear from readers. We hope you are enjoying some time off for the holidays, and look forward to bringing you many more stories in 2021 – which just has to be a better year.
Liz Willen, Editor
