2020 has left many LGBTQ young people feeling deeply isolated and scared. Here’s what young people told us in a recent survey:
* 53% of LGBTQ youth reported recent symptoms of depression in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
* 74% of Black LGBTQ youth shared that they feel more lonely than at the start of COVID-19.
* 30% of transgender and nonbinary youth said they feel unsafe in their living situation since the start of COVID-19.

Let’s be honest, Friend: The young people we serve were vulnerable BEFORE this pandemic. Systemic racism, a fractured social safety net, a culture that still has great strides to make to be fully affirming to LGBTQ young people — together they’ve made 2020 a storm of loneliness, fear, and despair for so many youth.

That’s why The Trevor Project answers hundreds of phone calls and text messages each day. That’s why, instead of sending our educators to schools and campuses, we now conduct virtual discussions and presentations remotely across the country. That’s why we publish resources to help supporters mentor and advocate for the LGBTQ young people in their lives.
