Dear John,

In this past election cycle, Democrats spent a record-breaking $6.9 billion to turn Texas blue. And while they failed, their efforts cannot simply be dismissed. They aren’t backing down. They aren’t going away.

It comes as no surprise that Democrats are focusing so hard on flipping Texas. We all know the old adage, “As Texas goes, so goes America. And as goes America, so goes the world.”

The Lone Star State has long been considered solidly conservative. Unfortunately, due to the corrupt culture of the Austin swamp – long controlled by crony lobbyists – Texas’ performance has been found wanting.

Republican politicians’ failure to live up to their campaign promises has opened the door for Democrats. Deal-making, self-serving activities are more important to the Capitol insiders than serving the citizenry.

Texas Scorecard works each day to shine a light on those backroom meetings where corruption flourishes. Every day we strive to expose the corrupt culture around the Texas Capitol and make it politically profitable to do the right thing.
