Hey, it's Al from Reveal. I know things are busy but I just wanted to make sure you saw my email from a few weeks ago. If you haven't already, please consider making a donation by 11:59 PM on December 31st. We need your support to keep going. Thank you!

Hi Revealer,

Each week on our show, we throw everything we’ve got into making sure Reveal gives you journalism that shows you how America actually works or, in many cases, how it doesn’t. In 2020, our reporting was more critical than ever. And we need your support to keep it going.

Support critical investigative reporting
I can’t shake two interviews I did right after the election. The first was with Candice Fortman of the Detroit newsroom Outlier Media. Candice was volunteering at an election center in her city when hundreds of people flooded the room, shouting, “Stop the count.” These supporters of President Donald Trump were latching onto the false narrative that the election was rigged. Candice, who has been an election volunteer since she was a child, says that chant is never going to leave her mind: “Stop the count. Stop the count.”

She asks: Why didn’t the protesters target the wealthy, White districts that had voted for Joe Biden? Why were they swarming mainly African American districts in Detroit, Atlanta and Philadelphia? Her answer: It’s another attempt to suppress Black voters, who came out in large numbers this election.

The second was with Allison Wynes, a nurse practitioner at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa. The number of cases in her state, like in the rest of the country, are soaring. While we’ve been caught up in the election, people are dying from COVID-19. The crisis is getting worse.

Allison told me she is struggling and sad. She’s devastated to see people who might be friends or neighbors acting irresponsibly by refusing to wear a mask or by meeting in large groups. Her children worry about the virus and whether their mom is safe working in a hospital. “You feel like you're wearing so many hats,” she told me. “And they're all really, really heavy hats.”

Our show can be heavy, too. But that’s the power of our journalism. It’s our duty to bring these stories to air, so these voices are not marginalized.
Support the power of journalism
Every week, we hear from listeners like you about why they support our work:

"Fact and truth-based journalism is the road to correcting abuses and holding violators accountable."

“This is an investment in my family's future.”

"I believe our free press is under serious threat and needs support."

"Reveal shows the historical foundations of the past upon which the present has been built."

We can’t do this important work without your support. I hope you’ll consider making a donation today.
Donate today!
And I should add – for the rest of December, if you can donate $11 a month, or $33 just once, we’ll send you a FACTS T-shirt.

Whether you give $1, $11 or $1,111: Thank you.

Light,

Al Letson
