Dear Friend,
“It was so important to have the Peasant Movement of Papaye (MPP) as an example of what it’s meant to be in the long struggle. We can learn from the folks that know.”
Those are the words of a fellow Grassroots donor Gina Athena Ulysse, on returning from our Haiti delegation in 2018.
So often we see our struggles siloed off and disconnected from one another. But thanks to ongoing support to Grassroots International, activists like you have allowed so many movements to grow strong, share lessons and inspire change.
That is especially true for Black-led movements, like the MPP in Haiti. The 60,000-member peasant group trains farmer-activists, produces radio programs, and collaborates with other Grassroots partners to fight for a better Haiti. Before the pandemic, organizers from South America and Haiti visited and learned from each other in Dessalines Brigades, thanks to funding from Grassroots International. Support from Grassroots donors, people like you, builds bridges between movements, whether across Haiti or around the world.
Regardless of November’s election, the Black freedom struggle must continue. To win, we need a truly global movement.
That’s why, though you haven’t given before, I’m reaching out. Would you consider making your first donation during our Solidarity Match campaign? Every gift received between now and December 31, up to $20,000, will be matched — doubling your impact!
In the face of COVID, climate change and other crises, another world is possible. You, social movements and communities are building it together. Let’s deepen our commitment and end 2020 on a high note.
