Dear Friend,

Thank you for supporting the work of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation!

It’s that time of year when you receive emails from us (and all the other charities you support) encouraging you to make a gift. We have already sent you a few notes like that because December giving makes up a significant part of our annual donations and we do need your gifts to help achieve our objectives of eliminating sexual exploitation. If you have already made your financial decisions and contributions—thank you again.

If you haven’t, then I want to let you know that this year is a unique opportunity for you to leverage the taxable deduction changes that are in place for 2020, as part of the CARES act that was passed earlier to deal with the impact across our country from COVID-19.

Previously, charitable contributions could only be deducted if taxpayers itemized their deductions.

However, for this year only, taxpayers who don't itemize deductions may take a charitable deduction of up to $300 for contributions made in 2020 to qualifying organizations. For the purposes of this deduction, qualifying organizations are those that are religious, charitable, educational, scientific or literary in purpose. The law changed in this area due to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act. The CARES Act also temporarily suspends limits on charitable contributions for those who do itemize deductions (increasing the limit for individuals from 60% to 100%, and for corporations from 10% to 25%).

Essentially, you can either pay the $300 to the IRS, or make that gift to any charity you support and deduct it from your tax payments. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to make a difference at a non-profit that matters to you.

We’re one of those eligible charities!

I hope you had a great Christmas, and on behalf of our entire organization wish you the best for 2021.

Best,

Dawn Hawkins

Senior VP & Executive Director
