In true 2020 fashion, our fundraising hasn't gone as expected after Jamaal won the general election in November.
After the general election (and still to this day!), fundraising ads were banned on Facebook and Instagram. The money we raise from these ads are responsible for a significant percentage of our total revenue in any given month — a deficit we're now trying to make up for.
We also spent the last two months raising over $30,000 directly for folks working to flip the Senate in Georgia and relief organizations that are helping people who are struggling due to the pandemic. As a result, our own fundraising took a back seat, and we haven't been able to keep up.
In short, we need to catch up on our fundraising before our final end-of-year FEC deadline on 12/31. Our goal is to raise $15,000 by then — and right now, we're not even close.
You probably know by now that we don't run things like most others, John.
We don't take money from corporate PACs and lobbyists. We heavily rely on contributions of $5 or $10 at a time from individual donors who read an email like this and chip in what they can.
And as Jamaal prepares to take office in 5 days, we need him 100% focused on legislating and organizing in our communities — not fundraising. This starts with meeting our $15,000 end-of-year goal before the FEC deadline at midnight on 12/31.
