The day before he was sworn in as president in 1913, Woodrow Wilson was met by a
modern suffrage parade organized by Alice Paul, a young Quaker. Women's suffrage
had gone outside to the streets with the result that Wilson was the first
president to face the Votes for Women movement day in, day out, for years.
