Can training police officers on principles like neutrality, respect, listening, and trustworthiness improve their attitudes and behavior in contexts where police-community relations are strained? IPA worked with researcher Rodrigo Canales and the Ministry of Public Security of Mexico City to conduct a randomized evaluation on the impact of a procedural justice training, which teaches these principles, on officers’ comprehension and internalization of the procedural justice framework, as well as on police behavior.
What impact, if any, did the procedural justice training have on officers’ perceptions and behavior?
Without evidence, decision-makers often have to guess the answers to questions like these. IPA works with researchers and our partners to generate evidence on what works, so organizations and governments can make informed decisions.
