Yesterday one of my committees held a hearing on Trump's detention camps and you would have thought we were hearing about Dickensian London, not the United States today. 
 
People locked in cages like animals. Crying children covered in filth without soap. Trump's former ICE director there saying he's the real victim.
 
Make no mistake, folks: none of us would allow this for our own children. This barbarism is by design. It’s the main feature of Trump’s racist immigration policies -- intended to stoke fear in immigrant communities and fire up his far-right base. 
 
Rachel Maddow covered the hearing last night and got it right: she said I couldn't contain myself after hearing about the horrific conditions Trump is keeping people in and the excuses from his former ICE director.
