The Actors Fund

Double the Impact

John,

As this year draws to a close, I’m reaching out today to talk to you about The Actors Fund—and to share a little bit of my own story.

You have the special opportunity today to make a donation that will have double the impact thanks to The Actors Fund’s Matching Gift Challenge. Please make a tax-deductible gift today to further The Fund’s essential programs and services!

During this devastating time, so many people in the performing arts and entertainment community are suffering. Across the country, dancers, costume designers, directors and musicians are facing desperate circumstances.

In the midst of this difficulty, The Actors Fund steps in and says, “We got you.” I know because I’ve personally experienced it.

In 1992, after I had done The Wiz and Ain’t Misbehavin’, I did the practical thing: I put some money away, knowing that someday I would grow older and need it. But then my life partner of 17 years was diagnosed with AIDS-related Lymphoma. I spent the last four years of his life caring for him, and gradually…my savings dwindled.

I didn’t know where else to turn, so I called The Actors Fund and explained my situation. They immediately stepped in and offered me help with every item on my list.

When I needed assistance, The Actors Fund was there. At my lowest point, when I couldn’t see beyond the horizon of despair and I felt alone, The Actors Fund stepped in to give me the support I desperately needed.

When you make a donation to The Actors Fund today, you will give someone else the support that I received. Even better, your gift will be matched up to $50,000!

Thank you in advance for your compassion,

Andre De Shields Headshot
