John -- With more progressive freshmen heading to Congress in 2021 than ever before, there’s a lot to celebrate, including two Brand New Congress representatives who have been elected for a second term!

In 2018, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) defeated the fourth most powerful Democrat in Congress in a sign that the people of her district wanted REAL, progressive change. In 2020, the Democratic Party establishment primaried her, only to suffer a huge defeat, with AOC garnering nearly 73% of the vote.

In 2018, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (MI-13) had a different path to victory, narrowly winning her primary election, showing that grassroots organizing makes all the difference in progressive victory. In 2020, the establishment primaried her as well, and yup, you guessed it, she won with a whopping 66% of the vote. 

Both of these incredible women are now giving regular-working people a voice, and rejecting the status-quo. They are fighting for policies that will benefit everyday Americans. We can’t leave them to fight alone.

In 2022, Brand New Congress will roll out the largest slate of candidates in our history, and have four BNC representatives fighting for reelection including freshman representatives Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman. 

We have to be ready to protect all our progressive incumbents and grow the coalition. That means hitting every fundraising target we set.

We are weeks away from opening up our candidate nomination process for 2022, so the work begins now. AOC said it best, “For one of us to get through, a hundred of us have to try.” That is why we are aiming high and making sure we elect and re-elect our largest coalition yet.
