In what has become an annual tradition, as the year comes to a close, ADL pauses each December to take stock of the moments and people who shaped the last 12 months with a Top 10 list.

ADL Welcomes Verdict in Halle, Germany Synagogue Attack
This week, ADL welcomed the verdict of a maximum sentence of life imprisonment for the white supremacist terrorist who attacked the synagogue in Halle, Germany on Yom Kippur last year, murdering two people outside the synagogue.
“Today’s verdict of a maximum sentence of life imprisonment will keep the Jewish community safe from this particular white supremacist terrorist and will hopefully send a strong signal of deterrence to those who harbor the same, vile antisemitic beliefs,” said ADL CEO Jonathan A. Greenblatt.

The Covid-19 Vaccination and Equity: ADL Education Resource
Across the globe, researchers worked tirelessly to develop vaccines that would provide immunity against Covid-19 and within the last few weeks, several countries including the U.S. approved two vaccines for emergency use. This lesson provides an opportunity for students to learn more about the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, understand the racial and other disparities in Covid-19 cases and outcomes, and explore the concepts of equity and equality as they relate to prioritizing vaccination.

NY Jewish High School’s Website Defaced with Neo-Nazi Imagery; Driver shouted Antisemitic Slurs, Ran Over Man at Menorah Lighting
Throughout the eight days and nights of Hanukkah, there were a series of horrific antisemitic incidents that took place across the country. Incidents included a Jewish high school on Long Island's website getting hacked and a driver shouting antisemitic slurs at a menorah lighting in Lexington, Kentucky.

North Carolina Racial Justice Task Force Makes Dozens of Recommendations
Last week, a task force, commissioned by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper in the days following George Floyd's death, formally recommended far-reaching changes to police, criminal justice and court systems, with a goal of eliminating racial inequities.
The final report from the North Carolina Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice urges more vigorous formal police standards involving the use of force, more education of officers on racial bias, and more transparency about officer misconduct.

The Fair Play Alliance has teamed up with the ADL's Center for Technology and Society to release the Disruption and Harms in Online Gaming Framework, an unprecedented and comprehensive catalogue of the types, causes, and impacts of antisocial behavior and harassment in gaming. The launch is accompanied by the release of a new set of freely available developer best practices to help companies in addressing the issues identified with more to follow in 2021 and beyond.
