Bigoted words give rise to bigoted policies. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson has been making cruel, transphobic slurs at the same time his agency is revoking critical housing protections for the transgender community.

That includes taking away protections from transgender people who are experiencing homelessness.

The current occupant of the White House and Secretary Carson are using HUD to advance their agenda of cruelty and discrimination. Their latest move will only worsen the systemic inequities that force far too many people in the transgender community into homelessness -- putting them at increased risk of violence.

Secretary Carson must immediately abandon this hateful policy and end his department’s relentless attacks on the health, safety, and well-being of transgender Americans.
